Vision and mission

Vision

The food system is fair, balanced and resilient. It supports the health of all people and the environment.

Mission

We are driving the transformation to a fair, balanced and resilient food system by helping promising solutions grow so that current and future generations can enjoy a fairer future.

Our values

Our Theory of Change

...is the theoretical foundation that guides our actions and that we use to decide which organisations to fund.

Theory of Change

The strategy in brief

Our strategy is divided into two essential pillars: food production and consumption.

As part of our Theory of Change, we have evaluated our current situation for both of these pillars and created a unique vision for each.

From there, we have developed the goals that we want to pursue or support through our work as a foundation, and we have drawn up practical plans for action under three main areas of focus.

Our two pillars

Produktion

Food production

Food is essential to us as human beings. However, food production is currently responsible for around 10% of all greenhouse gas emissions in the EU. What needs to change in order for us to feed ourselves in a healthier, more sustainable way? Our work is aimed at achieving several goals. For example:

  • Nutrient density: Farmers produce nutrient-rich foods free from toxic substances.

  • Farm sustainability: Farmers are familiar with the proven advantages of sustainable farming practices and implement adaptable, future-oriented farming concepts.

  • Working conditions: Farm workers enjoy attractive working conditions.

Konsum

Food consumption

We ask ourselves what is needed for consumers to make conscious purchasing decisions and how we can get people to show more respect and appreciation for food. Where do we need to start to ensure that families can eat healthier food, even on a limited budget? We want to address these questions. To do this, we’ve set ourselves goals like:

  • Nutritional expertise and appreciation for food: Food is shown more respect and appreciation in private households and on farms.

  • Nutrition education for children: Schools and daycares teach children about healthier, more sustainable eating habits and offer healthy, sustainable choices in school cafeterias.

  • Value chain: The production and processing of food is transparent from farm to table.

Our approach

The Theory of Change doesn’t just define the topics and goals that we as a foundation want to address. It also outlines how we want to go about addressing these topics and goals. In combination with the pillars of production and consumption, we select our partner organisations based on the following approaches:

Capacity building and empowerment

Networking

Communication

Education and training for individuals, organisations and communities. Specialist knowledge, social competencies, the ability to transfer acquired knowledge to other areas, collegial learning and mental health.

Sharing knowledge and best practices and creating coalitions and alliances between equal and unequal parties; reinforcing infrastructures for collaboration.

Exchanging information, developing a shared vision and a foundation for action, strengthening shared visions and standards.

How did our Theory of Change come about?

Our Theory of Change started with in-depth literature research and interviews with experts. Next, we discussed problem areas and goals with specialists. We are aware that we will need to reach many more goals in order to transform the way we eat. There are also countless options when it comes to practical approaches. We believe that the goals and approaches we have chosen provide us with the greatest possible leverage in order to make our vision a reality.
